Blurb Book propsal

For my book project I was thinking about doing a memories from the past theme. Since I am from Oswego (born and raised) I was thinking it might be a cool idea to go back throughout my past and pick out specific memories and document the places and different events that occurred there. As kind of a looking back and remembering/learning from experience for me.

"Lost Time" By Don Bloom was one of the books that stood out to me the most. I like to feel of longing that hangs within his pictures. The photos are beautiful and capture life as how it was maybe once before.

"Real" By Rene Roalf was another book that I liked. I enjoyed the set up of his images. I like how he had some images that filled the pages and other images that were just small section of what was a bigger scene. The panoramic views were a different twist to the images as well.

"Self" By Bella Kotak I enjoyed this book because it is mysterious. It has a magical feel to each picture.

"Perspectives" by Johnson K Jacob. I really liked his photos of the different landscapes. However it was more the name of the book that I am attracted to. I like the idea of taking photos from a different point of view then what people normally would think or picture something.

"Greenmount" by Madison Murphy. I really like this book. I love the images and well as the idea. It reminded me of a project I did last year for photo class on cemeteries. I find cemeteries to be such a ironic place of happiness and saddness all at the same time.

Ballerina # 16 By Kim Weston

Subject: Dancers

Form: Angle (point of view), line, framing, contrast, depth of field.

Interpretation: I think this image is interesting because it explore a different view of dance. It is not your typical shot of a dancer spinning or twirling or leaping across the stage. Instead this image represents all the hard work that these young females put into something they love. They are using the bar which is used to warm up a dancers body in order to stretch to do some of the leaps and jumps that people assume come so easy to a dancer.

Interpretation: Weston's photo is one of his many images that caught my eye. This particular image grabbed my attention though because it is not one of the typically seen images of dancers. It is showing you a different point of view. It is more geared toward showing the affects of dancing or even the opposite, the process of preparing for dance. The bare feet are what really makes me feel this way as well as the way each is holding on to the lace of the pointe shoe and their ankles. Being a dancer it was very easy to see this image and relate to it immediately and have a feel as to the emotions of the dancers.

Interpretation:
This image is one of many that were taken on that tragic day of September 11, 2001, when America was attacked. Nachtwey's image is an extremely moving piece of history. It also it sort of ironic in the considering the South towering is in the process of falling and in front the horror is one of the most famous symbols of religion, the crucifix. It is almost as it the picture is portraying to people that God must have intended for this disaster to happen and is watching over everyone. The image is also interesting because it has the symbols of religion and disaster which is home many of our global issuses and conflicts have started or what they orignially have stemed from.

Rose & Driftwood By Ansel Adams

The angle of the camera is from head on with a slight tilt from the top.


Interpretation:
This image has caught my attention. The image at first may just look like another landscape piece. However, I believe that this image is beautiful. It is as if you are right there next to the rose looking at up close. You can see all the lines that are created by the rose petals veins. The black and white nature of the photo makes the image sensual and romantic. Which is what I believe Ansel Adams was going for. Looking at this piece and his other work he seems to have a passion for nature. But it is the way he is able to capture the feel and movement of the land and flowers that makes it such a gorgeous image.
